Today is Errol Barrow Day in Barbados. I also know that Martin Luther King Day is being celebrated in the United States today as well. Happy holidays to all who are celebrating, in whatever way you see fit!
The Right Honourable Errol Walton Barrow (Jan 21, 1920 - Jun 1, 1987) was the first Prime Minister of Barbados and is affectionately called 'The Skipper' and more famously known as the Father of Independence. He led Barbados to independence from Great Britain and navigated the fledgling nation's first steps to sovereignty. He instituted free education in the country and was the architect of the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus as well as the creator of the Barbados Community College. He was a fearless political leader as well, co-founding the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Caribbean Free Trade Association (CARIFTA). To find out more about him check out links here and here.
